Max, all of Norway doesn't have the same weather at the same time. :-) For Bergen, this was only the 4th time in 60 years we got snow in October, so it got a lot of press. And yeah, I miss that flower.

Wow! That looks like real snow!!!

(In other news, I brought the backyard plants inside today... we're nowhere near close to seeing the white stuff, but we are seeing the night time lows that might upset the more delicate of the flora!)

So it's unusual, huh? Interesting. I was wondering if we were going to have another snowmaggeddon here, since this has been the hottest summer on record here, and a hot summer means a cold winter here, apparently.

Well, it's all rain and wind and 10C/50F again here. Which is normal - any time of year. ;-)

Ah. Well, it's good that global warming effects haven't shown up there yet.

Probably helps to keep in mind that I'm talking about Bergen, not all of Norway, and anyway, we've been heating up for the past 100 years just like everybody else.

Prologue : I am no longer on partial sick leave. I am considered well and am back to work 100%! I have new tasks but am the master of my day, even though my work calendar has never been as full as it is now! Now: I was tasked with teaching some part-time workers about what a beta tester does at work, the temporary position I was in for over 18 months while on partial sick leave. I subscribed to an online Page-A-Day calendar last year, and for Valentine's, they gave me a code to subscribe to one for free this year. So I opted for the Fact or Crap calendar. Browsing January, I got the answer to a puzzlement: Why do you see the whole moon even when it's new? Y'know, you look up, see that bare line of a crescent, but can also make out the rest of the circle, the rest of the moon. Why isn't the dark part completely invisible? Earthshine, that's why. Just like the moon, the Earth reflects sunlight, too - enough to let you make out the whole moon even when it's dark. The strength of the earthshine depends on Earth's cloud cover. I knew the Earth reflected light, like the moon, if not as well; I just never realized that was why a new moon is visible. Some time last month, I was listening to a new spiritual podcast, and the speaker said that we can all heal ourselves and each other by stating, "I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you." Apparently, this series of four short statements healed all the patients of a psychiatric facility, simply by being uttered by a doctor while he was looking at the patient files. I was intrigued. So I googled the phrase and discovered it comes from a Hawaiian spiritual ritual called ho'oponopono .* I found a blogpost that described this "cleaning" process.
