I love it! You see those quite often in Europe, but until recently, not so often in the US. I've been happy to run across a few scattered on our landscapes this summer, though!

Alice, they're coming to Norway, too (the photo was taken leaving Copenhagen). I have to admit, I find them a bit creepy when I see them up close. I don't know why.

Oh, this simply could not be more Scandinavian.;)) I have been watching similar windmills across our sea too, this past week.;) BEAUTIFUL image.;)

Zuzana, in that case, Norway is not part of Scandinavia. We have only one "windmill park" so far because most new projects get rejected (was just reading about it today). These are from right outside København (utseilingen). Germany has lots of windmills.

Faith in Jesus, interrupted

I have always been interested in Christianity. More specifically, I have always been interested in the answer to this question: Does Jesus save? I have always struggled with having a faith in Jesus. My own family is made up of theists, but nobody ever bothered with the traditional religions. Grandma couldn't understand why anybody wanted a faith where you looked up at a bloody, half-naked man every Sunday (good ol' Catholics), and I couldn't understand how anybody could put their faith in a man who looked like a hippie (good ol' Protestants). So while Grandma and I both ended up deists (that's not a typo), we found our spiritual sustenance outside the mainstream. Still, I've always had the question. Norway has a state religion. Norwegians make friends the same way porcupines mate: Carefully. In fact, they (the Norwegians, I mean) are so careful about it, I'm still not sure exactly how they do it. That was the short answer to Victoria's bafflement at Norwegian behavior. Victoria says: "[S]ome people are quite friendly and will smile or even chat a bit but I am still so surprised by the number of people who will either look right at you without cracking a smile or uttering a single word or will walk past you as if you don't exist." I'm sorry to say, but that aloofness is quintessentially Norwegian (and shared with the Swedes). The "cold north" isn't just a comment on the weather.
