Christmas plans

Sometimes shit happens with the best outcomes. I have yet to see how well, but it's looking good so far.

The friends I usually spend Christmas with I won't be spending Christmas with this year. That means I'll be alone for Christmas. That's not a bad thing. I've done it before. So, after the initial disappointment subsided, I started thinking about alternatives.

In the midst of this and the Christmas shopping, I got sick this week (I blame the Christmas ball for that - close quarters during dancing, you know). Today I'm home from work, tired of dragging my fevered self to work only to have to leave early. (With wonderful prescience, my mother sent me Vicks vaporub for my birthday. I'm using it!) My plan is to feel better for this evening's retirement party because I want to attend, at least through dinner.

As the days count down to Christmas, I find that I'm looking forward to having several days to myself, answering only to myself. I ordered an introductory EFT course, and it turns out to be hours and hours of videos and audios to go through (talk about value for your money!). So it's nice to have the time.

I just got the TV guide for Christmas, and there aren't as many Christmas movies as I'd like - or rather, that I'd like to see. A 1994 version of "Miracle on 34th Street" and a couple of versions of "A Christmas Carol" (another favorite) are showing, which is good. Should I not find anything worth watching on TV, I have plenty of DVDs to watch, and books to read. And the movie theaters in town to go to. And before I know it, Christmas will be over, it's back to work, and the pretty lights will be coming down.

In true bachelor fashion (I may as well have screamed "I'm single!" at the supermarket), I have purchased several ready-made Christmas porridges and ready-made Christmas dinners, so I will be having "pinnekjøtt" and "risgrøt" on Christmas Eve. I expect to be feeling better then, too, and will dress up for the evening and, thanks in part to the miracle of text messages, I'll be with all my friends in spirit.

I love it when a plan comes together.* ;-)

Keera - it's hard to imagine someone like you spending Christmas on your own, and my gut feeling is that you won't!

Even if you do, I wish you a Merry Christmas and I hope that you get all the great things in the new year that you deserve!

Tom

PS. Incidentally, what is Christmas porridge?

Keera, I too get sick as soon as I am shopping; it is the exposure to all those people everywhere in the shopping centers.;)
I am sorry about your x-mass eve plans not working out with your friends. Your positive attitude though makes me feel strongly that your Christmas will be wonderful nevertheless. Very relaxing and laid back.;)) I am of the opinion that being alone doesn't mean the least being lonely, while being with the wrong peole can certainly make one feel more lonely than ever.
Have a wonderful Christmas -
God Jul og Godt Nytt År!
xoxo

Sorry your plans didn't work out, Keera, but you never know. Anyway, have a lovely holiday. :)

You probably have a long list of people you can stay with any time, all over the world, but please add me to the list :) I can pick up at LAX with a few hours' notice :) (((hugs)))

I think it sounds like an absolutely wonderful Christmas. Mine has come round again to fulfilling the expectations of others and being filled with obligations, which makes the other extreme awfully attractive -- I guess some moderation might be nice for both of us, but if I was going to pick one extreme, I'd choose yours. ;-D

I know that come the situation it's not as easy as it looks, but that looks like a christmas dream.
And Needle Free Acupunture? Just what I need.

I met up with my friends today and exchanged gifts. They can't have me over this Christmas because the financial crisis has hit here, too, with the housing market going belly-up. My friend got married and he and his kids are basically camping out in his wife's apartment, while they try to sell both his and her homes. There is no room for guests, quite simply.

Tom, I'll blog about Norwegian Christmas food in a separate post, just for you. :-)

Protege, it'll be a good Christmas, no matter what. We've had some horrible fires recently in Norway, and I am so grateful that nobody I care about has lost their home or their lives.

Thanks, Paula, I'm sure it will be lovely.

Beep, thanks for the offer, and I wouldn't mind taking you up on it, but I'm happy not to be traveling at Christmas.

Alice, it is nice to be master of one's own time, especially when it is supposed to be spare time and wonderful time. Some obligations are wonderful to have, like having someone to shop for. :-)

Geir, sounds like you may be in the same situation as Alice. EFT isn't exactly/just acupuncture, but does build on it.

To all of you, thank you and Merry Holidays!

Hope your cold goes away quick and you'll be fit for the Party!
Vick Vaporup works wonders :)!

Wonder on 34th street is a great movie, love it!

Fires in Norway?
Any specified reasons?

Best wishes for a wonderful evening!

I was fit enough for the party, Nicole. :-) I had a lovely time.

I just saw the 1994 remake of "Miracle on 34th Street". Nice!

Norwegians use more electricity (esp. for heating) and light more candles this time of year. The biggest culprits are aging electrical systems and a lack of smoke alarms.
