Filling in the silhouette

It is almost imperceptable, but at some point, the silhouette of the trees change and get more filled in as winter ends and spring cannot be denied, as evidenced by the birch outside my apartment building.

When I was a kid, I used to rearrange my room twice a year -- in the fall, to move my bed away from the window, which could get cold in the winter; and in the spring, when I'd move the bed back to the window, so that I could stare out at the buds on the trees from the warmth of my covers on lazy mornings, watching as the season gradually overtook us.

What a lovely ritual!

Since permanent wall heaters generally go under windows in this country, that was never an option for me.
