A year ago we started on what was to be one of the wettest late autumns/early winters in Bergen's history. This picture was taken then, while sitting on the bus. And now I've also tested Blogger's picture-uploading-thingy.

As it would happen, we're have what I believe is the driest autumn here since I moved to Chattanooga. The fall colors are really suffering as a result (as are my mums!).
Thanks! I'm rather pleased with it myself. In what way is the dry affecting the colors? Gonna put a picture of it on your blog?

You can't really tell from the photo that I put up yesterday, but a lot of the trees in the area never really turned to their usual fall colors. It's been so dry that a lot of the leaves have skipped the autumn color and just dried up and fallen off.
Another weird thing is that my dog normally really suffers with fall allergies, but she hasn't had any problems this year. OTOH, I usually breeze right through the autumn, symtom-free, but the past month or so has been pretty itchy for me for some reason. It's definitely different from what we're used to, allergen-wise, and hopefully just a fluke.
Nothing's normal this year. A summary from the Norwegian weather bureau shows that they really struggled with getting long-range forecasts (5-10 days) right this past summer - a first. We've been breaking heat records all autumn. Too early to tell yet if this is the new norm. But I'm tired of the rain, already.
Bloggers all over are currently discussing the suggestion of a blogging code of conduct, where bloggers are required to refrain from insults and threats, or get their blogs yanked. The debate is generally anti-code, justified by the claim that it is freedom of speech to say what you want, and said freedom is protected by the US constitution. The thing is, we aren't discussing political blogs or racist blogs or pornographic blogs or blogs that in general have some kind of inflammatory material on them. We are discussing blogs much like my own: One person's personal outlet offered to the world because it's a rewarding thing to do (get to write, get to share, get feedback). But on some blogs, commenters are leaving insults and threats, including death threats. The general reaction to this, that I have seen so far, is if you can't tolerate some sicko comments on your blog, you are too sensitive for blogging so just stop blogging. Don't bitch about the internet being...
Some time last month, I was listening to a new spiritual podcast, and the speaker said that we can all heal ourselves and each other by stating, "I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you." Apparently, this series of four short statements healed all the patients of a psychiatric facility, simply by being uttered by a doctor while he was looking at the patient files. I was intrigued. So I googled the phrase and discovered it comes from a Hawaiian spiritual ritual called ho'oponopono .* I found a blogpost that described this "cleaning" process. I found an online article claiming that you can heal the whole planet with ho'oponopono because everything that comes into your sphere of experience is your responsibility.** I searched Amazon for books describing ho'oponopono. I bought Mable Katz 's book "The Easiest Way" .*** And her title may not be an exaggeration. After reading her short book, I have replaced my usual rit...
I have always been interested in Christianity. More specifically, I have always been interested in the answer to this question: Does Jesus save? I have always struggled with having a faith in Jesus. My own family is made up of theists, but nobody ever bothered with the traditional religions. Grandma couldn't understand why anybody wanted a faith where you looked up at a bloody, half-naked man every Sunday (good ol' Catholics), and I couldn't understand how anybody could put their faith in a man who looked like a hippie (good ol' Protestants). So while Grandma and I both ended up deists (that's not a typo), we found our spiritual sustenance outside the mainstream. Still, I've always had the question. Norway has a state religion. It allows for freedom of religion for everyone - except the nation itself and its monarch. The reigning monarch of Norway must be - according to the country's constitution - an Evangelical Lutheran, since the Evangelical Lutheran ...
