Years

Probably a mistake to try to blog while tipsy, but I just got home (the photo was taken at 2:44 am!) from celebrating a co-worker's 25th anniversary at work. I had my own 2 years ago.

I had hoped that my co-worker's anniversary party was as wonderful as mine, and since we all hung out until nearly 2 am (when the bar closed), it must have been. She certainly was happy, and that's the main thing.

It's weird to watch the years suddenly go by. The inevitable happens. The impossible date arrives and, although expected, still catches you off-guard.

At the party, I was talking to a recent hire, a man about my age who started in our company about 18 months ago, and I felt a bit strange being one of the old-timers. I don't feel old. I don't feel like 27+ years have passed. Certainly, they don't weigh on me. It's bizarre, really, to think that at this point, I have fewer years left to retirement than the years I have worked. I have no idea how or when that happened. Who swapped the young woman I still feel like for the middle-aged woman I actually am?

I'll bet my co-worker is thinking the same thing. I'll bet she's trying to work out the weird convolutions of time, wondering how something so linear could be so unpredictable, as she basks in the love and appreciation that her co-workers dished out.

I'll give Time that: It does give some kick-ass memories.

Great picture, I love our White Nights!;)
Agree with the sentiment here, i once thought there was so much time ahead of me and life was long. I remember starting my first job and talking to the senior technician who had been at the lab for twenty years. It was simply incomprehensible for me. Felt like eternity. Now - it feels like no time at all.;)
have a great weekend Keera,
xoxo

Beautiful pic. :)

Yes, I feel time is zooming past, so much more so now than before with my youngest about to enter her last year of HS in the fall and off to college after that ... I'll be 54 when she's finished, and only then (maybe) able to start thinking of myself and what I need/want. Probably not even then if my dad is still around.

Enjoy every sandwich, as someone said. :)

The 3 am sky in the summer is magical: Everything is so delicate - the light, the colors, the silence.

One of my first co-workers has just had her 40th anniversary at work. I remember thinking at the time, when I was a fresh hire, that she was crazy to have already been more than 10 years in one place. Look who's crazy now. ;-)

Had a dream about that. In my dream my flesh starts to swell and billow off my body so I started peeling it off. My entire body had been covered in some magic fake flesh; underneath I was thinner, taller and had more hair, oddly enough.

Turns out I'm the world's oldest teenager. It was freaky; it still is freaky, actually.

Max, you are not the oldest. My grandma felt 17 at age 88. :-)

Not only do the years suddenly go by, so do the DAYS! How is it that I'm only just getting around to this *June 19* post on *July 3rd*?!?

Weird convolutions, indeed. (Where's my summer speeding off to?)

I dunno. It was a few minutes ago that Keera answered me.

I will be the oldest some day. I hope. Bleh.

Alice, thanks, and my calendar is sped up, too.

Max, we're all headed that way. Weird as it is.

I hope I live anywhere near as long as your grandmother did. I am very much afraid I won't.

I'd like to make it to Grandma's age (94+), but not if it means spending the last decade or so chained to a nursing home.
