Swans and walkies

The walks continue, now for the sheer joy of it - though also because my pants aren't quite so snug anymore - but really, for the joy of it. For seeing the fuzzy gray flowers of the female pussy willow (hence the willow's name) grow bigger and bigger; for hearing starlings, blackbirds, great tits and sparrows all chirping and singing in a tree each; for finally getting a picture of the pair of swans - yes, a pair - before they left for the north; for feeling milder temperatures and being blinded by sunshine; for waiting for that moment when I first spot a cautious bud ready to unfold into a tender leaf.

Who knows what next I will experience as I detour around my local pond, but I am looking forward to it.

Yeah, that's my friend, A(n)nonymous. She's a clever one. :-)

I wasn't quite sure it was her at first, but took a chance it was.

Hi Keera,

I have been glancing at your blog for quite awhile. Mostly I agree with everything you say. I especially enjoy your nature commentary and photos.

However, I hope you will permit me to say that death threats -- like the ones being discussed at Salon.com -- are considered a form of battery and are not protected under U.S. law.

That may not be what you are specifically commenting about, but I thought I would leave my 2 cents.

Okay. Maybe I will add another cent. Perhaps a site that encourages an evironment so hostile that it results in serious threats might be liable for civil penalties.

I am no legal expert. All in all, I am a bit of a free speech fanatic.

I didn't think threatening behavior was protected. That's my beef. People claim they can say what they want because it's "free speech". I wish I were a legal expert in this case.

If anybody is wondering what the heck this has to do with swans, go here. :-)
